Vintage French Garden Cloche with Bird Finial and Rusted Metal Base

Garden cloches, also known as bell jars have been used for centuries to protect young plants and seedlings from harsh weather, pests and frost.

This decorative cloche features a cast metal bird as a finial, a common embellishment on garden accessories from the late 19th and early to mid-20th centuries.  The rusted base indicates exposure to the elements, typical of something which has been used outdoors.  These types of cloche's dated back to the 1930's-1940's but this item is much newer than that, 21st century.
