Victorian Dairy Bowl in Cream Glazed Earthenware

Victorian cream-glazed dairy bowl made from earthenware and in beautiful condition.  The English dairy bowls can be differentiated from the French or Spanish bowls by the brown ring that the bowl has around the rim.  There is some cracking in the cream glaze which is to be expected with an item of this age, but I believe this just adds to its antique patina.

Dairy bowls were used to separate cream from milk.  Their simple robust construction ensured they could withstand heavy use, which is why many have survived to this day.
