Victorian Dairy Bowl in Cream Glazed Earthenware

An antique (Victorian) dairy bowl in soft cream-glazed earthenware with a classic wide, shallow shape and gently rounded sides. The bowl features a smooth glazed interior and a beautifully aged finish with subtle crazing and signs of use that enhance its authentic character.  The bowl is in excellent condition considering its age.  The English dairy bowls can be differentiated from the French or Spanish bowls by the brown ring that the bowl has around the rim.  

Dairy bowls were used to separate cream from milk.  Their simple robust construction ensured they could withstand heavy use, which is why many have survived to this day.
