This was a very dark room which was poorly designed.  To lighten it, I added light concrete effect porcelain tiles on the floor, painted all the walls in white and then added colour with the colour of the cupboard doors and the paintings on the wall.  Spot lights were added to the ceiling and lights inserted over the cooker and under the cupboards.  It is a much better use of space, particularly with the pantry which is next to the inglenook fire place
