It is unusual to find a small Victorian dairy bowl, they are usually larger than this. This 19th century dairy bowl is in excellent condition, with cracked glaze demonstrating its age. It is made from red earthenware and has a cream interior glaze.
Potters across rural England threw these heavy bowls on foot-powered wheels using locally quarried red clays. They left the exterior unglazed in order to provide a secure, non-slip grip for heavy kitchen use.
