Stoneware pottery has been produced for centuries, as it is durable and versatile. In France and in particular Burgundy and Provence, stoneware jugs were essential for storing and transporting liquids such as wine, oil and water.
This antique French rustic stoneware double handed jug with its narrow neck is characteristic of French country pottery from the 19th century. It has lovely glazing to the outside which moves from a rusty brown to a light brown, with dark brown handles.
