Antique White Ceramic Apothecary Jar Labelled 'Sapo Animal'

Very attractive antique ceramic apothecary or pharmacy jar labelled 'Sapo Animal' meaning that this jar would have held animal-derived soap, commonly used in various medicinal and cosmetic applications throughout history.  The jar has an attractive lid with a large knob on it - there is a small chip out of the rim of the lid (see photo), however this doesn't detract from its attractiveness or functionality.

This jar is characteristic of European pharmacy wares from the late 19th to early 20th century.  Sought after by collectors for their historical significance.  This simple but elegant jar would look great in any kitchen.
