Antique Sarreguemines inronstone Pitcher with Pink Transferware Floral Pattern

Beautiful large antique French Sarreguemines ironstone pitcher with a pink transferware floral pattern and basket weave type pattern at the bottom.

Sarreguemines pottery, produced in Sarregemines has a rich history dating back to the late 18th century.  This jug or pitcher exemplifies the decorative and functional ceramics of the Victorian era.  Transferware, a tecnnique where a printed design is transferred onto the ceramic surface, allowed for the mass production of decorative items.   It is suggested this pitcher dates back to the late 19th century.
