An antique French cast iron jardiniere planter with ribbon and swag relief detail on both sides, standing on four feet.   One side has a silver tone to it, whilst the other is more weathered and has less of the silver colouring, which has been replaced by slight rust, adding to the vintage patina of the piece.  It is suggested this jardiniere dates back to the 19th century.

Affluent homeowners used these planters on windowsills, balconies and interior sunrooms to display flowering plants and ferns.
