A Vintage French Blue & White Transferware Ironstone Bowl by Louis S & G

Very pretty vintage French blue & white transferware ironstone bowl by Louis S&G, which can be found stamped on the bottom of the bowl. 

Terre de Fer means ironstone and is a type of hard, durable earthenware developed in England in the early 19th century and widely adopted by French manufacturers.  It was known for its strength, resemblance to porcelain and ability to hold intricate transfer printed designs.  It is suggested that this bowl dates to the mid/late 19th century.

Please note there is a small chip on the base of the bowl (see photos), which doesn't detract from the beauty of the piece.
