This is an antique stripped pine dome-topped trunk, which has iron fittings, a central locking mechanism and metal carrying handles on either side. Inside is stripped paper, which is showing signs of age, but this just adds to the vintage patina of the piece.
It is known as a steamer chest or pirate-style trunk and were luggage for travelers during the lat 19th & early 20th centuries, particularly for long sea voyages.
The trunk would be fantastic for storing bed linen, spare pillows etc. at the bottom of a bed or as a decorative item in any room.
